It appears that WiFi deviates a lot from the Plug-n-Play solution I had in mind. Just yesterday I helped a friend resolve her WiFi connectivity issues, by moving the channel allocated on her router from the default selection of automatic (which was apparently broken, since it left her on the busy Channel 1).

As always, Google and Wikipedia are our friends:

Rule of thumb is to try and use channel 1, 6 or 11 in order to avoid overlapping.

Got my new D300 a dozen hours before the end of 2008! I’ve been reading the manual like crazy, and took it for a spin today along a walk to Pnyka. Check smugmug for a couple of pictures shot there:

Having shot 15k shots on a D70, I have fallen for the D300 as soon as it was announced. People that I respect for their photographic skills keep saying that a real photographer can shoot a terrific photo with a Kodak instamatic, but I’ve given up fighting the gadget lust. Here’s to the my next 30k photo shooting 🙂

Made up my mind to switch. Second day using the final version of Google Chrome, and I’m ready to do my daily Internet crunching the Google way. That means:

  • Leave all my old bookmarks behind, and start a-fresh using Google Bookmarks. Will be using the bookmarklet offered to quickly setup bookmarks, and have already setup a search engine to look them up.
  • Use Google Reader. No more FeedDemon, and that probably means that I’ll remove NetNewsWire from my iPhone, too.
  • Start using the online version of Google Talk. I’m tired of missing all the nice things like multi-party chats, Video chats etc.
